The 2017 Australian Bouldering Titles was held at Nomad Bouldering Gym in Sydney on 18-19 November & what an epic weekend it was! The perfect combination sick bouldering, awesome people, rad sponsors & tasty beer saw people flocking to the Annondale gym to be apart of the action. This years nationals was made all the more special with an incredibly diverse team of route setters, headed up by none other than Tommy Krauss. The rest of the setting team was made up of some of the best setters from around Aus as well as special guest, all the way from Seattle in the US of A, Tonde Katiyo! Tonde is a world class route setter & has come to Australia to run setting & coaching master classes at a few selects gyms over a few weeks. His knowledge & insight to the world of competition climbing is second to none & the problems that were set over the weekend really stood out & showed new direction for the competitions here in Australia!
Saturday saw qualification rounds for all 3 categories, Open A, Open B & Masters while Sunday started off with Open A Semi’s follwed by Masters Finals then Open B Finals with the main event, Open A Finals, starting later Sunday afternoon. Outside of the climbing there was epic food on offer by local food trucks, the Clif Bar chill out zone, hangboard comps, Climbing Anchors stand, Scarpa Demo stall & even a brewery across the road… no wonder it was such an epic 2 days!
The gang at Nomad really need to pat themselves on the back as they truly pulled out all the stops on this one &, in my opinion, it will go down as one of the best comps I have been to in recent years. It was great fun to capture the action & I am stoked to be apart of it all by providing the official media coverage of the event.
