Walpa Gorge is situated within the natural rock formation known as Kata Tjuta, formerly known as The Olgas, in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory. Although the iconic landmark of the area is Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) due to its cultural signifance, Kata Tjuta is just as (if not more in my opinion) impressive. Kata Tjuta is made up of 36 steep monoliths, the tallest of which is 546m, a whopping 198m TALLER than Uluru!

We hiked into Walpa Gorge late one afternoon & after witnessing a beautiful clear sunset looking west, before we knew it, a near full moon was rising between the towering walls of the Gorge behind us. I hiked deeper into the canyon & found this small watering hole that provided some great reflections of the glowing sky above. The light produced by the bright moon was bouncing off the red conglomerate walls, producing a beautiful alternative to the red glow we witnessed at sunset & it was something else!
