The official Olympic selection for the 2021 Tokya Olympics took place at SICG Villawood on the 19-20 December 2020 & formed the 2020 Oceania Climbing Titles. 17 Climbers flocked to SICG Villawood for their chance to nab a ticket to the 2021 Olympics & be the first Australian or New Zealand climber to represent Oceania on the big stage. After a few last minute drop outs due to the increased risk associated with COVID-19 in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, the final field consisted of 9 Females (8 Aussies & 1 Kiwi) & 8 Males (7 Aussies & 1 Kiwi) all ready to give everything they have for a chance to wear the green & gold!
Despite the challenges from COVID, the weekend was a huge success thanks to the event organisers, athletes, coaches, volunteers & of course the route setters & sponsors! This event was of immense importance to Rock Climbing as a sport & people from across the world were tuning in to see how it unfolded & who would be going to Tokyo in 2021.
Massive thanks to Sport Climbing Australia for having me on board again this year, it has been a pleasure to work with them over the years & to be ask to shoot the Olympic Qualifying event was a huge honour, even if I am now writing this at home for my mandatory 14 day self isolation due to not making it back across the QLD border before the deadline.
